Big Sur, California

A mile long mudslide closed the pacific coast freeway indefinitely the day before we traveled to Big Sur. So, we rerouted through a military base, parked on the top of a hill and then backpacked two days to get to this bluff overlooking the coast.

Sporadically, as we were hiking down to the coast we could hear, and feel, huge redwoods crashing down around us. The forest fires had made them weak and the rain caused mudslides, giving the ancient trees their final journey.

With no one else on the coast we were isolated and looked over Big Sur as if it was the California Coast of the 1950's.

We eventually hiked down to the ocean, and this honestly has to be one of my favorite places to visit in California.
